19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and regular outbursts on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an better service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
